Payment and refunds

Read before you commit. Know what you are signing up for before you sign up for it. That is not a suggestion — it is the whole policy.

1. Payments are final

Payments on Daggermen are final. That covers Tier 1 membership, the First 500 rate, a listing on the Muster, and the Standing By posting add-on. Once money has been taken it has been taken: no refunds for a change of mind, nothing pro-rata because you stopped using it, and no “just this once”.

That is about you changing your mind. It is not a way of keeping money for something we did not do — see section 6 — and it is not us switching off the law where you live, which we could not do anyway. See section 7.

2. Why, straight up

Access is granted the moment payment clears. A membership is not a shipment you are waiting on. The second the card is charged the door is open, and there is no unused product to send back. (A Muster listing works differently — it is a term, and sections 3 to 6 are about exactly that.)
We are a small outfit, not a call centre. Every refund request needs a person to read it and decide. We would rather spend that time building this place than processing disputes.
One rule applied evenly beats a hundred exceptions. The moment we start deciding who deserves a refund and who does not, we have stopped being fair to anybody.

3. The Muster works in two steps, and the first one is not a charge

A listing is read by a moderator before it goes on the board. So the money moves in two steps, and it matters which is which:

When you send a listing, the fee is held, not taken. Your card is checked and the amount reserved against it. Nothing has been charged.
If the listing is refused, the hold is dropped. A listing this board will not carry is never charged for. There is nothing to refund, nothing to claim back, and nobody for you to chase.
Once it goes live, the fee is taken. That moment is the start of the term you paid for — 30 days or 90 — and what the money buys is a place on the board for those days.

4. What the fee buys, and when that is on you

$100.00 for 30 days, $250.00 for 90, in US dollars and converted at the checkout. What you are buying is a place on the board for those days, not an outcome. Once the listing is up and running, the fee is final:

You take it down early, or fill the role in a day. Good — but the board carried it.
Nobody answers it. We sell the place, not the people. No board anywhere can promise the second one.
We remove it after it went live for breaking the rules of that page. That is on the listing, and you agreed to those rules before you sent it.

5. Standing By is a subscription, so it stops rather than expires

Posting to Standing By is a small add-on on top of Tier 1 — $3.00 a month or $30.00 a year. It is not a term and it is not a one-off:

Lodging an advert is free, and being refused is free. A person reads it before the add-on is any part of it. If they say no, you have paid nothing — the same order as the Muster in section 3, and for the same reason.
Stopping it stops the next payment. Your advert comes down and nothing further is taken. That is the control you have, and it is the whole of it.
It does not return the month or the year you have already had. You had the advert up for that time, which is what the money bought.
It cannot be held without Tier 1 underneath it. If your membership stops, the add-on stops with it and the advert comes down — there is no state where you are paying for one without the other.

6. And when it is on us, we put it right

Because the fee is taken at the start of a term rather than at the end of one, there is a version of this where you have paid and we have not delivered. That is not a refund policy question, it is us owing you something:

If we take your listing down by mistake, or it is off the board through a fault of ours. You get those days back — put back up with the term extended, or the unrun part of the fee returned. Your call, not ours.
If the board is down long enough to matter. The same again. An hour of maintenance is not that; days are.
If we close the Muster, or this site, while your listing is running. The part of the term that has not run comes back to you. We would not keep money for days that no longer exist.
The same for Standing By. If we close that board, or your advert is off it through a fault of ours, the add-on stops and you are not charged again — and if you have paid for a year, the part of it we cannot deliver comes back.

Ask through the suggestions form. It reaches a person, and you should not have to argue for this — it is written down here so you can point at it.

7. The one thing we cannot sign away

Where the law where you live gives you a right we are not allowed to take off you, it stands, whatever this page says. That is not us leaving a door open for a change of mind — it is not our door to shut. Tell us and we will sort it out. Section 12 of the terms says the same thing about every other clause on this site.

8. Before you commit

Check the pricing and what each membership gets you, and the terms. Nothing is hidden: Tier 1 pricing, the First 500 rate and the Muster fees are all laid out plainly before you reach a button that takes money, and the fee terms are printed on the listing form itself.

If something is not clear, ask first. It reaches a person. Once payment is made it is made — and it is the same deal for every member, founding or otherwise.

Prices are quoted in US dollars and converted to your own currency at the checkout. You agree to this policy at the point you pay, and we record which version you agreed to.
